How To Crochet Easy Round Lace Doily

🧶 Materials

  • Sport-weight cotton yarn (≈ 100 g / 96–97 m), or similar fine cotton

  • Crochet hook: 3 mm

  • Scissors and tapestry needle

  • Optional: blocking tools for finishing

🌸 Doily Construction

Round 1 – Center Ring

  1. Make a magic ring, or ch‑4 and join with a sl‑stitch to form a ring.

  2. Chain 3 (counts as first dc), then make 11 more dc into ring (total 12 dc).

  3. Slip‑stitch into top of initial chain‑3 to close the round

Round 2 – Chain Spaces

  1. Chain 4 (counts as hdc + ch‑2).

  2. Hdc in next stitch, ch 2 — repeat around.

  3. Join with sl‑stitch to top of the beginning chain‑2

Round 3 – Clusters with Ch‑2 Loops

  1. Slip stitch into one ch‑2 space.

  2. Chain 3 (dc), then dc, ch 2, dc — all into same space.

  3. Chain 1, then (dc, ch 2, dc) into next ch‑2 space — repeat around.

  4. Slip stitch to join to top of chain‑3. Before starting next round, slip stitch into the next chain‑space to align start of round

Rounds 4–9 – Building the Lace Pattern

Each round progressively increases the size of chain loops and spaces. The structure is:

  • Make shell clusters of dc, ch‑2, dc in previous round’s ch‑2 spaces,

  • Chain spaces between clusters grow by 1 ch each round (e.g., ch‑2, ch‑3, … ch‑6).

  • Slip‑stitch alignments at the start of each round maintain symmetry

Follow the video or written chart exactly through round 9, incrementing spaces as you go.

Edging – Final Round

  1. Chain 1, sc in first 3 stitches.

  2. Then:

    • 2 sc in each ch‑2 space,
      sc in next dc,
2 sc in next ch‑2 space,
5 sc in each ch‑6 space,
      sc in next 3 dc
      , repeat around.

  3. Slip‑stitch to close

📋 Quick Reference Table

Round                          Action
1                                        ch‑3 + 11 dc into ring (12 dc total), sl‑stitch to close
2ch‑4, (hdc, ch‑2) repeating around, join
3cluser (dc, ch‑2, dc) in each space with ch‑1 in between
4–9Expand shell clusters and chain loops; alignment slip‑stitch between rounds
Edgingsc work and multiple‐sc clusters into larger loops for scalloped edge

By following those steps through 9 rounds and adding the scalloped edging, you’ll create a delicate and elegant round lace doily approximately 30 cm in diameter—perfect for home decor or gifts.
