Fascinating Leaves🌿How to Make Crochet Shawl, Blouse Pattern

This pattern creates flowing leaf motifs connected in rows, perfect for shawls, blouses, tunics, or runners. The fabric grows lengthwise and looks elegant but is very repetitive once you learn one leaf.

Materials

  • Yarn: Fine (No.2) or Sport / DK (No.3)

    • Cotton or cotton-blend for clear leaf shape

  • Hook: 3.0 – 4.0 mm

  • Scissors, yarn needle

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • ch = chain

  • sl st = slip stitch

  • sc = single crochet

  • hdc = half double crochet

  • dc = double crochet

  • tr = treble crochet

  • sp = space

  • rep = repeat

Pattern Notes

  • Pattern is worked row by row

  • Leaf motifs repeat horizontally

  • Stitch count is flexible → easy to adjust width

  • Turning chain does not count as a stitch

FOUNDATION CHAIN

  • Chain a multiple of 12 + 3

    • Example:

      • Small sample: ch 39

      • Shawl/blouse panel: ch 123 or desired width

ROW 1 – Base Setup

  1. Sc in 2nd ch from hook

  2. Sc in each chain across

  3. Ch 3, turn

ROW 2 – Leaf Stem Preparation

  1. Dc in first sc

  2. Ch 3, skip 3 sts, dc in next st

  3. Rep from * to * across

  4. Ch 3, turn

👉 These chain spaces will form the leaf centers

ROW 3 – Leaf Center Spines

  1. Dc in first dc

  2. In each ch-3 space work:

    • (dc, tr, ch 2, tr, dc)

  3. Dc in last dc

  4. Ch 3, turn

🌿 You will now see V-shaped leaf spines

ROW 4 – Leaf Shaping (Right Side)

  1. Sc in first dc

  2. Around the first leaf spine, work:

    • 2 sc

    • 2 hdc

    • 3 dc

    • 2 hdc

    • 2 sc

  3. Sc between leaves

  4. Rep leaf shaping across

  5. Ch 3, turn

ROW 5 – Leaf Shaping (Left Side)

  1. Repeat same stitches as Row 4

    • Work stitches into the opposite side of leaf spine

  2. Sc between leaves

  3. Ch 3, turn

🍃 Each leaf is now full and dimensional

ROW 6 – Connecting Leaves

  1. Dc in first sc

  2. Ch 5, sc between leaves

  3. Rep across

  4. Ch 3, turn

ROW 7 – Start Next Leaf Row

  1. Dc in first dc

  2. In each ch-5 space work:

    • (dc, tr, ch 2, tr, dc)

  3. Dc in last dc

  4. Ch 3, turn

➡️ You are now building the next row of leaves

REPEAT PATTERN

  • Repeat Rows 4 → 7 until desired length

    • Short length → blouse

    • Long length → shawl or runner

FINAL EDGE (Optional)

For a neat finish:

  • Sc evenly around all edges

  • Corners: (sc, ch 2, sc)

Or decorative edge:

  • Sc, ch 3, sl st rep around

BLOCKING (Important 🌿)

  • Lightly wet or steam

  • Shape leaves gently with fingers

  • Let dry completely for crisp definition

PROJECT IDEAS

✔ Shawl
✔ Summer blouse / tunic
✔ Scarf
✔ Table runner
✔ Curtain panel

TIPS

  • Use lighter yarn for lace look

  • Cotton gives best leaf definition

  • If fabric curls → add one sc edge row

  • Adjust hook size if leaves look tight
