My Favorite Easy Crochet Edging Pattern That Works Up Quickly!☘️☘️

This edging is delicate, neat, and works well for:

  • Blankets

  • Shawls

  • Table runners

  • Scarves

  • Clothing finishing edges

It uses a simple repeat of shells and chain spaces.

🧶 Materials

  • Any yarn weight you like

  • Matching hook size (ex: 3.0mm for lace cotton / 4.0mm for acrylic DK)

  • Scissors

  • Tapestry needle

📌 Before You Start

You must have a straight base edge to work on:

  • If working onto fabric edge: make 1 row of single crochet (sc) evenly along edge first.

This makes the border smooth and even.

🌿 Pattern Steps

Row 1 (Foundation Row)

Work sc evenly across your edge.

→ This creates a clean base to build the edging.

Turn.

Row 2

  1. Ch 3 (counts as first dc)

  2. dc in the next st

  3. ch 2

  4. sk 2 stitches

  5. dc in next 2 stitches (one dc in each)

Repeat Steps 3–5 across the row.

This creates pairs of dc separated by chain spaces.

Turn.

Row 3

This row forms the shells.

  1. Ch 3 (counts as dc)

  2. dc in the next dc

  3. ch 3

  4. Into the ch-2 space from the previous row, work 5 dc (this is the shell)

  5. ch 3

  6. dc in each of the next 2 dc

Repeat Steps 4–6 across the row.

Turn.

Row 4 (Open lace row)

  1. Ch 1

  2. sc in first dc

  3. sc in next dc

  4. ch 5

  5. sc in center (3rd dc) of the 5-dc shell

  6. ch 5

  7. sc in each of next 2 dc

Repeat Steps 4–7 across the row.

Turn.

Row 5 (Final scallop row)

  1. Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in the next sc

  2. In the ch-5 space: 9 dc (this makes a big scallop)

  3. dc in the next 2 sc

Repeat big scallop + dc pair across the row.

Fasten off and weave ends.
