🌸 MOTIF PATTERN

Round 1 – Center Ring

  1. Ch 8, join with sl st to form a ring.

  2. Ch 3 (counts as dc), then work 23 dc into the ring.

  3. Join with sl st to the top of ch-3.
You should have 24 dc total.

Tip: If your yarn is soft, make the center tight to define the motif.

Round 2 – Forming the Base Petal Loops

  1. Ch 1, sc in same st.

  2. Ch 4, sk next dc, sc in next dc.

  3. Repeat * all the way around.

You will get 12 ch-4 spaces (each separated by sc).

Join with sl st to the first sc.

Round 3 – Petal Foundations

We now build arches from the chain spaces.

  1. Sl st into first ch-4 sp.

  2. Ch 3 (counts as dc), 4 dc into same space → total 5 dc (a small shell).

  3. Sc in next sc.

  4. In next ch-4 sp5 dc.

  5. Repeat shell (5 dc) in each ch-4 space, separated by sc in between.

You should now have 12 petals around.

Join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3.

Round 4 – Tall Lace Petals (Elongation)

  1. Sl st to the 3rd (middle) dc of the 5-dc shell.

  2. Ch 6 (this creates a tall airy loop).

  3. Sl st into the next shell’s center dc.

  4. Repeat around → 12 ch-6 arch loops.

Join with sl st to first joining stitch.

This forms the airy lace crown of the motif.

Round 5 – Square Shaping

We now turn the circle into a square.

Corners are made into four of the ch-6 loops, spaced evenly.

To start:

  1. Sl st into next ch-6 sp.

  2. Work the corner:

(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same ch-6 space
  3. In the next two ch-6 spaces (these are side spaces):

    5 dc in each space
  4. Repeat:

    • Corner (3 dc + ch 3 + 3 dc)

    • 5 dc in next 2 loops
until you form 4 corners and 8 side shells.

End with sl st to first dc.

Your motif is now a square with petal arches rounded into lace.

JOINING MOTIFS (As You Go — No Sewing)

When working Round 5 on second motif and onward:

At each corner ch-3 space:

Instead of ch 3, work:

ch 1, sl st into corner ch-3 of the completed motif, ch 1

At each side shell where motifs touch:

Replace the middle dc of the 5-dc group with:

ch 1, sl st into matching side space of neighbor motif, ch 1

Then continue stitching normally.

This creates a clean lace join with no visible seams.

✅ Pattern Repeat Layout

For blanket, shawl, runner, blouse:

Join motifs in rows: Row 1: Make X motifs and join sides. Row 2: Join new motifs along both top and side edges.

The motifs join very neatly, forming an elegant repeating lace.
