Step-by-Step Instructions

Body & First Wing Half

  1. Start with magic ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc).

  2. In the ring: 2 dc, ch 3, sl st (this makes the small upper wing).

  3. Still in the ring: ch 4 (counts as tr), 2 tr, ch 4, sl st (this makes the small lower wing).

Second Wing Half
4. Ch 4 (counts as tr), 2 tr, ch 4, sl st (other small lower wing).
5. Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc, ch 3, sl st (other small upper wing).

Pull the magic ring tight. You now have 4 small lobes that will be expanded.

Shaping the Wings
6. For each upper wing:

  • Work into ch-3 space: (ch 3, 3 dc, ch 3, sl st) twice for a lacy layered effect.

  1. For each lower wing:

    • Work into ch-4 space: (ch 4, 2 tr, ch 4, sl st) twice.


Adding Lace Edging

Butterfly Body & Antennae
